Playstation gamers have truly been blessed this year. With a huge range of titles released. Both exclusive and multiplatform. It is always difficult to narrow down the most impactful titles in a year like this. But it is a task we are definitely up for.
From the hottest indie titles to the most stunning triple-A releases. Today we are taking a deeper look at some of the best playstation titles of 2024. Examining what made them so amazing and giving you a brief overview of how the titles are played. If you haven’t had the chance to try any of the games on this list then hopefully this will encourage you to finally give them a go!
Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree
Normally we wouldn’t include a DLC on this list. But, in true Fromsoft style, Shadow Of The Erdtree has blown every expectation of what a DLC is out of the water. The highly anticipated Elden Ring DLC was purported to only be as big as the base games starting area. This was proven to be a lie when the DLC was released. Instead we got a product that was essentially a full game in its own right.
The gameplay is more of the same. No huge deviations from the Elden Ring formula. But there is an overhauled DLC independent leveling system. A swathe of new weapons and weapon types. A sprawling and beautifully designed world to explore. And, of course, a horde of powerful new bosses to face off against.
Fromsoft has always produced some of the best PS5 games for women and men who love a challenge. And Shadow Of The Erdtree is perhaps one of the most challenging titles they have ever released.
Shadow Generations
Sonic The Hedgehog is one of the most recognisable gaming brands on the planet. The loveable blue blur has had a mixed bag of games over the years. With some amazing titles like Sonic Adventure 2. To some not so loved titles like Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric.
But the series has gone from strength to strength lately. And the latest iteration, Shadow Generations, is perhaps the best entry in years! Putting the popular character Shadow at the forefront, the game uses the same style as Sonic Generations. A mixture of classic 2D side scrolling and 3D adventure levels.
Shadow Generations doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel. Instead it refines everything that people love from Sonic games. And, as an extra bonus, the game comes with Sonic Generations as well. So you get two full games for the price of one!
Frostpunk 2
The original Frostpunk was one of the most inventive and grueling city builders ever released. Set in an alternative victorian era timeline where the world is going through a new Ice Age. You are charged with helping a small settlement expand and survive in a hostile frozen wasteland.
The first game was more than just a challenging city builder. It often asks you to make questionable ethical decisions for the good of your people. And Frostpunk 2 continues this trend. In the sequel you still have to battle against the environment. But you are no longer a small settlement. Rather you are at the head of a larger city. And now have to deal with all the political and social issues that come with that.
Frostpunk 2 is a masterclass in sequelling. You will find all the elements that made the first game so popular. But every new feature blends in perfectly. Both in a technical gameplay sense and in regards to the style of the world. You will have to play a delicate game of political back and forth. Trying to appease different parties while also managing your citizens’ needs. But, as is often the case, pleasing one group will invoke the wrath of another!
Black Myth: Wukong
Another highly anticipated title. Black Myth: Wukong is a rich exploration of Chinese mythology wrapped up in a Fromsoft style action adventure game. Fans of Elden Ring or God Of War will love this title.
The combat is smooth and satisfying. The story is focused and exhilarating. And the game’s world offers enough room for exploration without becoming too vast. Providing ample room for consistent story progress while still offering enough side exploration to keep you engaged.
